You had me at baby triceratops

Official plot summery:

“22 years after the events of Jurassic Park, Isla Nublar now features a fully functioning dinosaur theme park, Jurassic World, as originally envisioned by John Hammond. This new park is owned by the Patel Corporation. Owen, a member of Jurassic World’s on-site staff, conducts behavioural research on the Velociraptors. After many years, Jurassic World’s attendance rates begin to decline and a new attraction, created to re-spark visitor interest, gravely backfires.”

What I thought:

So, what were my expectations? They were low to be honest. Which I’m sure is not surprising considering how dreadful The lost world and Jurassic Park III were. They were not good movies by any measure.

But Jurassic World had me pretty wowed! Absolutely ram packed with chaos right from the get go. Thrilling and even quite brutal in places much to my delight. It is by far the best of the sequels.

I feel that for what it lacked in storytelling, was most definitely compensated for by special effects. It was visually stunning and despite killer dinosaurs being on the loose, it made me want to visit the park.

The velociraptors were set out as the main stars again (but I did let out a mini squeal when I seen the baby triceratops), and although I kind of enjoyed the story behind them more this time, nothing was ever going to come close to the original raptor raid in the kitchen scene of Jurassic Park.

With the original movie I at least felt like I cared about the characters, where as in this movie it was simply all about the dinosaurs. There was really no story to follow other than the disaster of the dinosaur on the loose and therefore I found it hard to care what was happening with the characters at all.

That being said, I thoroughly enjoyed it. I wasn’t disappointed in the slightest and it left me with mixed emotions of thrill and excitement. And I most certainly recommend you watch it.

Is it ok for children to watch?

I’ve been asked this by a few parents this week. And in all honesty I’m not really sure. Harri is 4, and he loves the first movie. But I feel like this one maybe have been slightly more frightening for a child his age. There isn’t much swearing or gore in it. But people do die and there is some blood. So I think it’s maybe best for you to watch it and make the decision yourself.

You can find the original trailer below of you haven’t already seen it. On reflection I think I would have loved to have seen this movie in 3D. The sound and visual effects were out of this world.

Thanks so much for reading. Let me know what you thought of the movie!
